About this trailer axle weight calculator

This planning calculator estimates how much of the trailer's total weight remains on the trailer axles after the hitch carries its share. It then divides the estimated axle-group weight across axles and tires.

How the calculation works

  1. Enter loaded trailer weight.
  2. Enter measured or estimated tongue-weight percentage.
  3. Enter axle count and total number of load-carrying trailer tires.
  4. The calculator shows estimated axle-group weight, average per axle and average per tire.

Get a better result

  • Real left/right and front/rear axle loads are rarely perfectly equal.
  • Do not use average per-tire load to ignore a known side-to-side imbalance.
  • Use scale measurements for a loaded trailer whenever practical.
Important: Tow Capacity Lab provides planning math, not a certification that a combination is safe, legal or manufacturer-approved. The lowest applicable rating always controls.

Frequently asked questions

Is each axle really carrying the same weight?

Not necessarily. The calculator gives an average for planning. Suspension geometry, cargo placement, road angle and trailer attitude can shift load between axles.

Does this replace individual wheel weighing?

No. Individual or axle-by-axle weighing provides better information when operating near component limits.
